Jess Bryant - Rockfeedback Session

(14.10.09)

The latest star of our unique Rockfeedback sessions – artists playing in a room with little more than a light bulb and their instruments for company – if Jess Bryant isn’t widely adored pretty bloody soon, we’re going to take to the street and start smacking random strangers ‘round the face.  A uniquely delicate but powerful, disturbing and beautiful voice singing an array of quite haunting songs, we also chat with Jess about her music, the nature of performance and compositional ideas.

J Tillman - Rockfeedback Session

(16.07.10)

For the first of our Rockfeedback Sessions - a new series of special exclusive performances for Rockfeedback, we invited Fleet Foxes' J.Tillman and his own band for a incredibly memorable afternoon of wonderful harmony-drenched Americana. Fuelled by enough bottles of spirits to kill many a horse, we also had a chance to speak to the band after they played.

Lone Wolf - Rockfeedback Session

(14.07.10)

The first time we met Lone Wolf man Paul Marshall he was propping up the bar in support of his fellow Leed-sters Pulled Apart By Horses. At the time it seemed impossible that this chirpy chap talking about naked parachute jumping was the auteur of darker-than-dark Vultures.  So we dragged the contradictory man for a rockfeedback session to find out just what he thinks he's doing.

No Age - Rockfeedback Session

(09.07.10)

L.A. duo Randy Randall and Dean Allen Spunt previously played together in the astounding spasmodic punk tribe Wives, but upon the split of their former band in 2005, something equally thrilling was born.  No Age might only number two members and wilfully embrace a lo-fi aesthetic, but there’s a depth to their music that mightn’t be apparent on first listen.  We invited the cacophonous duo to play us a little session at Urchin Studio in London.

Marques Toliver - Rockfeedback Session

(08.07.10)

One of the few gentlemen truly deserving of the word ‘unique’ being attributed to his person, the dazzling Marques Toliver, delivers a compelling set of violin-written songs. The term singer-songwriter nowhere near covers the depth of soul, romance and fantasy in his heartfelt tales. We tried to bottle and conserve this special something in an RFB session and, by jove, I think we managed it.

Lawrence Arabia & Cate Le Bon - Rockfeedback Session

(07.07.10)

Back in March we were lucky enough to have both Lawrence Arabia and Cate LeBon playing our Rockfeedback club night, so rather than waste the opportunity we thought it best to spend the whole day with the pair of them. This beautiful little duet was just another little piece of genius they managed to squeeze out between recording their own sessions. Enjoy.

Cate Le Bon - Rockfeedback Session

(06.07.10)

Though she'd probably kick us in the shins for saying this, Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon is gorgeous in so many ways, she sings many of her self-penned songs in her native tongue, dresses like a greek goddess who has fallen into a charity shop and could probably drink you under the table. We caught her midway through a late winter tour, trapped her in a basement so cold you can see her breath and made her sing for us.

The Antlers - Rockfeedback Session

(05.07.10)

The Antlers are from Brooklyn, and they’re unapologetically serious.  Their  sophomore LP Hospice is a concept album about terminal illness, varicose-veined with isolation and loss. Somehow they manage to turn all that into something beautiful. We dragged them along to play us a very intimate little session in the pub under our office, and caught up with them on life, loss and everything.

Laura Gibson - Rockfeedback Session

(26.03.10)

With nothing but a gently plucked acoustic guitar to hide her sweet, melancholic voice, Laura Gibson plays us a heart-pulling set of potent, fragile songs at our home away from home (beneath the office), the Lexington.

James Yuill - Rockfeedback Session

(24.03.10)

We catch up with James Yuill for one of our Rockfeedback Sessions, with three unusually intimate acoustic renditions of his trademark folktronica, and chat about the influence of dance music, and the unimportance of words.

Alessi's Ark - Rockfeedback Session

(22.03.10)

Stripped down, visceral and impactful, Alessi Laurent-Marke writes fairytale melodies inspired by the likes of JD Salinger and Edward Gorey and films such as Harold and Maude, a comical but disturbing tale of a love affair between an old lady and a boy. We invited her to come play a bare-bones session for us, and she dutifully agreed. We was well chuffed.

Steve Abel - Rockfeedback Session

(12.03.10)

A global coming together of notable proportions here, we were delighted to recently welcome Swiss-based New Zealander Steve Abel to London for a special Rockfeedback “in-session” performance at our Lexington home. Famed for his quiet, yet intense, un-contrived and beautiful song-writing (alongside his equally notable environmental activism) this piece sees a wonderfully intimate performance of three songs solo, including a chat with Steve about the nature of his life and music.

Two Door Cinema Club - Rockfeedback Session

(10.03.10)

Hotly tipped indie darlings Two Door Cinema Club have been loosely compared to the gargantuam likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Broken Social Scene, but have also picked meticulously at the best bits of British music - the disco-punk of Bloc Party's Silent Alarm, the agit-rhythms of Talking Heads and the melodies of 80's pop bands like Spandau Ballet...Despite this melting pot of influences, the band are still one of the most distinctive and original bands pummelling at the doors of the charts right now. We met the fellows for a very personal, cosy little session in lieu of their debut album being released through Kitsune records and published through our sister label, Transgressive records.
